Silvia graduated as a chef in 2009, gaining experience across a range of kitchens before finding her true passion in baking—especially breads and pastries. This led her to open D’Silvia, her own small bakery, where she spent five years delivering fresh breads and pastries to local restaurants, forming close connections with the community. Her journey continued as she taught live cooking classes, authored a recipe book, and participated in local fairs across Costa Rica. In 2020, Silvia launched Masa Madre Lab, an online, subscription-based platform where she shares the art of sourdough bread and pastries with beginners and intermediate bakers alike. Through Masa Madre Lab, Silvia not only teaches the technical skills of baking but also highlights the health benefits of sourdough’s long fermentation process. For Silvia, baking is a meaningful way to nurture loved ones, promote a healthier lifestyle, and build a deeper sense of connection. Her accessible content and engaging platform have allowed her to foster a global community of passionate bakers from her home.
